Did you know? For centuries doctors thought that medicines made with human flesh, blood and bones could be effective in curing all kinds of ailments from epilepsy to head ache. This practice was called as corpse medicine.
What is a medicine?
Medicine, simply is a science that deals with prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure of a disease in human. It confines varieties of health care treatments to maintain and restore health and also has a long history of scientific evolution.
“The latest trending, holistic health care treatment”, was proposed by a German physician Dr. Christian Friedrich Samuel Hahnemann. He was browned off by the medicine which he was practicing and claimed that it caused more harm than good to patients. So he gave up his practice. He earned his living by working as a writer and translator. During one such occasion while translating William Cullen’s “A Treatise on Materia Medica”, Dr. Samuel Hahnemann encountered the claim that cinchona, the bark of a Peruvian tree, was effective in treating malaria because of its astringency. He believed that other astringent substances are not effective against malaria. He began to research cinchona’s effect on the human body by self-application. And this lead him postulate two dogmas. They are
- Similia similibus curentur : (likes cures likes)
It states that any drug capable of producing ghast symptoms in a healthy individual will manifest similar symptoms when it occurs as an expression of a disease.
- Law of minimum dose :
Lower the dose of medication greater is its medicinal virtue, this is because when a disease encounters our body it tries to overcome the body’s immune system, now the immune system becomes slightly exposed and it’s rendered abnormally sensitive. So the drug needs to be prescribed in a minimum dose, just enough to trigger the body’s immunity, thereby reducing the aggravation and producing a cure. Many ponder if a small globule can produce such medicinal activities, for those people I would like to say
“A mustard doesn’t diminish”.
A HOLISTIC APPROACH
Homoeopathic medicines are tailored (highly individualized) to each person and so it is common for different people with same symptoms to receive different medication. Homoeopathy considers patients as a whole and they are addressed with greater insights. So as to understand patient’s suffering in broader terms. Rather than merely looking at the rudiment causes of illness, Homoeopaths take detailed history of the patient from birth till date. On the basis of the patient’s history constitutional remedy is provided. This ceases the recurrence of a disease. In cases of chronic disorder, it takes time for a permanent heal.
The sources of Homoeopathic medicaments are plants (bitter gourd, poison ivy), minerals (white arsenic, chloride), animals, Insects, electricity, x-rays and even lunar rays. The original material is diluted then agitated (succussed) vigorously. Homoeopathic medicines can be used to treat range of conditions, such as arthritis, eczema, depression, phobias.
Some of the diseases that can be cured by Homoeopathic remedies are:
Yes, migraine can be cured using Homoeopathic medicines. Migraine is caused due to stress. It is characterized by severe headache, which may throb and is usually on one side of head. It gets worse by sun glare, loud noises and perfume odour. This headache doesn’t stop until a pain killer is taken. But this isn’t a permanent cure and so we can go with Homoeopathic medicines like LYCOPODIUM, SILICEA, SEPIA, PHOSPHOROUS.
Homoeopathy has a positive role in early diagnosed cases of diabetes. If the blood sugar is very high, the first priority is to control the elevated blood sugar level so that we can save the patient from life threatening complications. There is a Homoeopathic remedy called Organopathy that reduces the sugar level. The most commonly used remedies are Uranium Nitricum, Phosphoric acid, Cephalandra indica.
CIRRHOSIS OF LIVER:
Alcohol intake is the most important reason for liver cirrhosis. Homoeopathy has various effective natural remedies like
Cardus Marianus, Flouric acid, Sulphur, Nux Vomica.
Hernia is a medical condition caused due to protrusion of an organ or a tissue. Depending upon the tissue and organ involved hernia is of different types. Based on different types of hernia symptoms, different medication is prescribed. Homoeopathic medicines like Calcarea Carbonica, Rhus Toxicodendron, Thuja Occidentalis, Plumbum Metallicum is used to treat hernia symptoms
Homoeopathic medicines are often made as sugar pellets so as to keep it under the tongue. Homoeopathic medicines are also available in forms of ointments, liniments, drops, lotions and tablets.
FIRST PREFERENCE OF SPORTSMEN
Many sportsmen especially athletes prefer the 200years old medication as homoeopathic medicines speeds up the healing process and has no risk of doping. A two-time Olympic medalist in javelin throwing Kate Schmidt says
“Homoeopathy can be effective in treating almost anything short of what needs surgery”
HOMOEOPATHY AROUND THE WORLD
Homoeopathy is 200 years old, second most wide spread treatment known to the world. India leads in number of people using Homoeopathy as a curative. Overall it forms a common heritage as Homoeopathic remedies are cost- efficient, prescriptions are safe as they form a part of diagnostic approach and simple technologies are employed in its preparation. In countries like Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Germany, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, South Africa, and in United Kingdom Homoeopathy is a recognized medical care.
Ramakrishna’s most eminent disciple was Swami Vivekananda. Swami Vivekananda once said: “An allopath comes and treats cholera patients and gives them his medicine. The homoeopath comes and gives his medicines and cures perhaps more than the allopath does because the homoeopath does not disturb the patients but allows the nature to deal with them”.
